In the hours after Chicago’s homicide count for this year passed its total for all of 2011, more shootings on Monday left at least two others dead and six people injured.
The Monday morning shooting of Carlos Alexander, a 33-year-old father of four, brought the number of killings in Chicago this year to 436, one more than the total for all of last year. By the end of the day, the total stood at 438.
Alexander was shot from behind as he returned to his home 7900 block of South Escanaba Avenue, police and family members said. He died later at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Just hours later, the homicide total increased again.
At about 1:20 p.m., two gunmen approached a group of men standing on the 1100 block of West Wilson Avenue and started firing, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Robert Perez, citing preliminary reports.
Walter McLemore, 37, of the 3600 block of West Augusta Boulevard, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at 2:42 p.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
A man in his 20s suffered several graze wounds to the head in the same shooting, and his condition this afternoon had stabilized at Weiss Memorial Hospital, Perez said.
The alleged shooters may have been wearing shoulder-length wigs and red lipstick at the time of the attack, according to a a preliminary police report.
In a third fatal shooting, a woman was killed and a 15-year-old boy wounded Monday evening in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, authorities said.
The two were shot about 6:20 p.m. in the 1600 block of North Spaulding Avenue leaving the woman dead, according to police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien.
Elizabeth Pabon, 36, was hit in the chest and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the medical examiner’s office. She was pronounced dead at 6:59 p.m.
The 15-year-old sustained gunshot wounds to both upper thighs and was taken from the 1700 block of North Sawyer Avenue to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where his condition had stabilized, said Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Sean Flynn.

In the West Town neighborhood, a 20-year-old man was shot in the back at about 9:40 p.m. while driving a van on the 100 block of North Seeley Avenue, Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
He left the vehicle and managed to flee on foot to the 100 block of North Hoyne Avenue, Greer said.
He was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was listed in critical condition.
In the West Humboldt Park neighborhood, a 19-year-old was struck in the right hip at about 6:30 p.m. at Pulaski Road and Thomas Street, said Fire Dept. Dmdr. Sean Flynn. Paramedics took him to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition had stabilized.
In the West Pullman neighborhood, a 16-year-old was shot in the buttocks at 5:53 p.m. in the 12100 block of South Parnell Avenue, Flynn said. The teen was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where his condition had stabilized.
In the West Englewood neighborhood, a 14-year-old boy was shot about 4 p.m. on the 6100 block of South Talman Avenue, said Police News Affairs Officer Joshua Purkiss.
The boy suffered a wound to his right leg and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where his condition has stabilized, Purkiss said.
