Community celebration will feature a Juneteenth parade, Black-owned businesses, family activities, food, entertainment and opportunities to build community unity

The United Black American Progress Association, also known as UBAPA, invites Chicago residents, businesses, organizations and community leaders to attend Englewood’s Juneteenth “Buy Black” Parade & Festival on Friday, June 19, 2026.

The free community celebration will honor Black history, celebrate freedom and encourage residents to strengthen the community by intentionally supporting Black-owned businesses.

Parade participants will begin lining up at 10:00 a.m. at 69th Street and Lafayette Avenue. The parade will step off at 11:00 a.m., followed by the festival beginning at 12:15 p.m. at 838 W. Marquette Road, Chicago, Illinois 60621.

The parade will travel west on 69th Street to Halsted Street, turn north on Halsted Street to Marquette Road and then travel west on Marquette Road to Green Street.

Englewood’s Juneteenth “Buy Black” Parade & Festival will bring together families, young people, elders, entrepreneurs, faith leaders, community organizations and advocates for a powerful day centered on the theme:

“Our History. Our Freedom. Our Future.”

“Juneteenth is more than a celebration. It is a reminder that our freedom must be protected through unity, community ownership and economic action,” said Ebonee Stevenson, President of the United Black American Progress Association. “When we support Black businesses, invest in our neighborhoods and stand together, we honor those who came before us while building a stronger future for the next generation.”

The event will feature:

  • A community Juneteenth parade
  • Black-owned business vendors
  • Food and refreshments
  • Live entertainment and music
  • Youth and family activities
  • Cultural presentations
  • Community organizations and resources
  • Opportunities to connect with local entrepreneurs and community leaders

The festival’s “Buy Black” marketplace will give Black entrepreneurs an opportunity to introduce their businesses to new customers, build relationships and circulate more economic resources within the community.

Organizers are encouraging attendees to bring their families, wear red, black and green and come prepared to support participating Black-owned businesses.

The celebration will also provide a space for the community to affirm that Black history matters, Black lives must be protected and Black economic empowerment is essential to the future of Chicago’s neighborhoods.
