New research and educators are raising concerns about misdiagnosis and delayed diagnosis for autism and delayed diagnosis for autism and Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) among Black girls. According to the organization Black Voices, these disparities can lead to negative educational, medical, and employment outcomes, high anxiety, low self-esteem, and suicidal ideation. NewsVision reporter Naiya Brown spoke with experts and advocates in the Washington, DC area about the challenges families face and the solutions emerging in the community.
