Davis Named to Property Tax Relief Task Force

EAST HAZEL CREST, Ill. – State Rep. Will Davis, D-Homewood, will join a bipartisan Property Tax Relief Task Force aimed at delivering comprehensive solutions to lower property tax bills for homeowners statewide.

“High property tax bills are hurting families and seniors, and it will take bipartisan action and real effort to deliver responsible solutions to this challenge,” Davis said. “This task force is an important step in a comprehensive approach to provide real relief.”

Davis voted to create the Property Tax Relief Task Force by passing Senate Bill 1932. The bill was signed into law by Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Friday, and Davis was chosen to represent the House Democratic Caucus on the bipartisan panel. Davis and his colleagues will look at best practices and will provide short and long-term recommendations for how the state can better provide property tax relief for homeowners. It is expected to deliver a report to the governor and General Assembly by the end of the year regarding administrative, electoral and legislative changes that can be pursued to create relief.

Davis and other members of the task force will serve without compensation.

“We have to carefully consider the impact that changes to our property tax system will have,” Davis said. “Schools and critical local services depend on this revenue source, but there should be an opportunity on the state level to lower the burden on homeowners while preserving essential services. I look forward delivering real results for residents.”
