The executive board of the Chicago Teachers Union has voted to remove the organization’s vice president over allegations he may have misspent more than $6,200.
The executive board of the Chicago Teachers Union has voted to remove the organization’s vice president over allegations he may have misspent more than $6,200. Ted Dallas also was kicked out of the union during a meeting of the executive committee late Tuesday. Dallas, a special education teacher at Wells High School, said he is considering an appeal. Dallas was accused of improperly using union money to pay for restaurant meals and to pay himself for sick days. Officials also accused Dallas of signing a nearly $20,000 check for sick days for himself and using union equipment to copy and send out fliers against union president Marilyn Stewart. Dallas accused Stewart of mismanaging the union’s finances. Union spokeswoman Rosemaria Genova said Dallas’ ouster was due to his behavior, greed and abuse of his position as vice president.
