Calvin Jordan- Supervisor and Democratic Committeeman of Rich Township- is expressing his profound gratitude to a wealth of local governments, State agencies and the Governor Pritzker’s offices for their collective efforts in navigating resources amid the recent violent storms that rocked the southland.

With reported tornadoes that devastated portion of southern Cook County, the government of Rich Township was greatly challenged in its effort to provide relief through  Public Works and Public Safety. In addition, the enormous challenges of performing well being checks on seniors throughout the township could not have been executed without the partnerships of local governments combining their resources and sharing information.

“This experience created a wealth of collaboration amongst many of us responsible for public safety, but it was also a teaching moment given this new trend of violent weather that has now landed within our region. However, we pooled resources from across the region and were successful in meeting the needs of thousands of residents.” Says Supervisor Jordan.

Fallen trees literally crippled many neighborhoods and main streets. Governor Highway was blocked off due to down power lines and trees. It became extremely difficult for local public works vehicles and public safety vehicles to drive through impacted communities given the blockage. However, Supervisor Jordan contacted Governor Pritzker to request the assistance of removing these heavily weighted trees and power lines on Governors Highway.

Supervisor Jordan adds,“I am profoundly grateful for Governor Pritzker and his executive staff for dispatching IDOT personnel and emergency vehicles to remove the fallen trees from Governor’s Highway. Without this assistance we would not have been able to execute our relief and recovery efforts throughout  portions of the region.“

In addition to the immediate help of the IDOT, Supervisor Jordan is expressing gratitude to every mayor throughout Rich Township for pooling their resources and working in a concerted effort to share information and resources in hopes of assisting towns that were enduring more damage than others. However, Supervisor Jordan can’t say enough about the extraordinary help of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and the EMS division of Cook County who worked relentlessly with the Township in the delivery of services to numerous residents.

“Words could never describe the positive actions of all of the government of Cook County, our mayors, police departments, fire departments, and public works personnel in every community. For days we all worked around the clock to respond to resident calls for several issues including the distribution of water, emergency kits, removal of trees and other urgent matters. I want to personally thank my team at Rich Township for working tirelessly to perform our emergency protocols within the township. Our Homeland Security, Public Works and Highway Departments for performing their duties within a spirit of excellence. “says Jordan.
