The event will also feature a book signing with Dr. Carol L. Adams
The Rainbow PUSH Coalition is hosting a special Saturday Morning Forum
on Saturday, June 20. This upcoming gathering titled, ‘Fathers and Their Fight to Fulfill the Promise,’ will commemorate both Father’s Day and Juneteenth by honoring the enduring contributions of fathers and father figures to the pursuit of justice, equality, and opportunity in America.
As we celebrate the progress represented by Juneteenth and honor fathers whose guidance and commitment have transformed lives, we are reminded that America’s founding promise remains a work in progress.
“Commemorating these two important dates brings to mind my father’s lifelong legacy. The late Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., inspired generations to march, organize, vote, serve, sacrifice, and build. Yet today, we continue the fight because the American promise remains an unfinished reality,” said Yusef D. Jackson, President and CEO of the Rainbow PUSH
Coalition.
Featured participants for this pivotal community discussion include Rainbow PUSH Coalition President and CEO Yusef D. Jackson, alongside moderator Rainbow PUSH Chief Impact Officer Rev. Stephen Thurston II. The program will also include guest speakers, Executive Director of Live Free Illinois, Rev. Ciera Bates-Chamberlain, Dr. Carol L. Adams, and Shelley A. Davis, a contributor to the book “My Dad: The Man: Black
Daughters in Praise of Their Fathers.”
The morning will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition’s historic Kenwood headquarters (930 E. 50th Street) with a breakfast and book signing of Dr. Carol L. Adams’s new book, My Dad: The Man: Black Daughters in Praise of Their Fathers.
The morning forum will then begin at 10:00 a.m featuring a powerful conversation on leadership, legacy, and the essential role fathers play in strengthening families, uplifting communities, and shaping future generations. Through personal stories and thoughtful dialogue, participants will reflect on the responsibilities and sacrifices of fatherhood while examining the continued work required to build a more just and equitable society.
“Fathers and Their Fight to Fulfill the Promise” will challenge attendees to consider how fathers, mentors, faith leaders, and community advocates continue to advance that promise — not only for their own families, but for future generations. It will be a morning of inspiration, reflection, and a renewed commitment to ensuring that the American promise becomes a
lived reality for all.
Faith leaders, organizers, and community members are welcome to attend in person or tune in to the live broadcast. The public can register to attend in person at www.rainbowpush.org, or tune in live via WVON 1690AM radio, WJYS, the Word Network, and Rainbow PUSH’s
