On a conference call today, the Barack Obama Foundation announced that the exhaustive process of selecting an architectural firm to build the Obama Presidential Library has come to a conclusion. Not much was revealed about the actual design of the library itself; however, a rough timeline of events past and present was shared and here it is.
August 2015 – Request for Qualifications went out and 144 architectural firms worldwide responded.
December 2015 – Formal Request for Proposals announced to seven semifinalists for creative ideas.
March 2016 – Seven semifinalists meet one-on-one with President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to show concepts for both proposed sites, Washington, and Jackson Parks.
June 2016 – New York architects Tod Williams and Billy Tsien was chosen.
December 2016 –┬áThe anticipated announcement of the final location.
2018 – The design team has up to two years to design and submit a building for approval.
2021 – Anticipated ribbon cutting ceremony.
