Lee Daniels and Danny Strong‘s new drama series, “Empire,” releases a new teaser trailer — joining Fox’s lineup in 2015. A series about the head of a music empire whose ex-wife and three sons battle for his thrown, according to Blackfilm.com.
Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) is former street thug turned iconic hip-hop artist and CEO of Empire Entertainment — making him the king of hip-hop.
But with his power, he’s diagnosed with a disease that will leave him crippled in a matter of three years — meaning time is running out to find the new head of the empire.
His eldest son (Trai Byers) is the CFO of the empire, which make him next in line to be the head, right? Wrong! Lyon believes he lacks the charm to be the king.
His middle son, Jamal (Jussie Smollett) is a soulful singer who doesn’t care too much about the fame who Lyon is ashamed of since he’s gay.
And the youngest son, Hakeem (Bryshere Gray), is a spoiled-fame brat who has talent, but lacks discipline and hard work.
Although Lyon is prepping his sons to take over his empire — having them compete for the top position, his plans are interrupted with his ex-wife, Cookie (Taraji P. Henson).
She’s released from prison seven hears early after spending nearly two decades behind bars. And she wants what’s her — a piece of the empire.
Lyon runs the empire for the time being until his health’s deteriorates — especially with the help of his assistant Becky (Gabourey Sidibe).
But he might want to watch his back with an ex-wife who took the fall for running drugs that built the empire and with three sons willing to take each other down for the top of the empire.
