Circumstances of Disappearance: At 12:30 a.m., Morgan was last seen by her sister Sierra walking outside to speak to the father of her unborn daughter.
Morgan, who was four months pregnant, has not been seen since that night.
St. Petersburg Police Department spokesman Michael Puetz told NewsOne in an interview that the case is still “under active investigation.”
“We have talked to all of her acquaintances and a number of people she had associations with,” said Puetz. “At this point, she’s still missing and still believed to be under life-threatening circumstances.”
Morgan’s mother, Leah Martin, says she met the then-25-year-old Father of her child on Facebook when she was just 16.
“They weren’t dating. They had just met on Facebook and were messing around, I guess,” Leah Martin told HLN.
Martin’s boyfriend has not been arrested or charged with any crime in relation to her disappearance.
Still, Natalie Wilson, co-founder of the Black and Missing Foundation, says social media users should take precautions when meeting people online.
“Sadly, Morgan’s story is not uncommon. It happens more often than we think,” said Wilson. “There are risks when dating someone you have met online. You just don’t know who you are dealing with — their character, personality and background.”
Leah Martin also says her daughter’s last known cell phone location was more than 40 miles from their home in a place where the family has no connections.
Morgan was a prolific user of social media. She would also speak to her mother several times throughout the day. There have been no new posts on any of Morgan’s pages.
Homicide detectives are now investigating the case. It has been hard for Leah Martin to cope.
“You wake up and think about your family,” Leah Martin told ABC Action News. “I wake up. I think about her.”
Now she just wants to know what happened to her daughter and unborn grandchild.
“I should have the right to put my child to rest. I should have the right to know where my child is,” said Leah Martin.
Last Seen Wearing: Gray terry cloth sweats and white tank top, light pink fuzzy slippers, and dark-pink zip-up sweatshirt with hood.
Identifying Marks or Characteristics: Morgan has a scar on her lower left jawline from a dog bite and has a tattoo on her right hip. The tattoo says, “Raza espanola.”
Martin’s family has created a Hope for Morgan Martin Facebook page.
