Demands that Candidates Fulfill Their Commitment to Taxpayers
Dr. Willie Wilson is calling on “double dippers” like Alexi Giannoulias to either resign from their current taxpayer-funded elected office, or drop out of the race for Mayor. Dr. Wilson believes that Giannoulias, who is simultaneously running for re-election in November as Illinois Secretary of State while also mounting a campaign for Mayor of Chicago, is abusing his power and insulting the voters through his self-serving actions. Dr. Wilson asserts that all of these candidates are violating the public trust and must either fulfill their commitment to their current elected office or remove themselves from the mayoral race, and he has sent the attached letter to Secretary Giannoulias.
“Chicago deserves leaders who want to serve in elected office to help people and fix our city, not to enrich themselves or their special interest donors,” said Dr. Wilson. “Alexi Giannoulias and these other ‘double dippers’ are disrespecting the voters and ripping off the taxpayers by running for two offices at the same time. As a self-made businessman and philanthropist, I will only answer to the people of Chicago and will always fight for honest, ethical government — Giannoulias and these other double dippers can’t say the same thing, and they need to either do the jobs the people elected them to do, or get out of this race.”
Wilson began running a new television and digital ad earlier this week that takes aim at both Giannoulias and Mayor Brandon Johnson for their role in the city’s long history of corruption, self-dealing and insider politics.
