The Answer, Inc. will host its annual “An Evening in Black for Autism” Cocktail Reception on Saturday, September 26, bringing together families, advocates, community leaders, supporters and special guests for an evening of networking, music, food and celebration.
This year’s event will take place in the organization’s traditional annual gala.
The evening will feature a premier food menu, music including R&B, house music and stepping, and surprise celebrity guests. Ramonski Love and Davi Davenport will serve as hosts.
While the event offers a more relaxed atmosphere than the organization’s traditional gala, fundraising remains at the heart of the evening. Proceeds will support The Answer, Inc.’s continued work with individuals and families affected by autism, including occupational and speech therapy, autism screenings and scholarships.
Vines emphasized the importance of highlighting these services and the organization’s next major milestone: its first permanent building.
The Answer, Inc. recently purchased a facility located at 1551 Westchester Boulevard in Westchester, Illinois, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony anticipated for November.
“Every time I think about that, I can just pinch myself because it seems like yesterday my late husband and I were sitting at the kitchen table talking about it. Everything that we talked about—from serving the families to having programs to serving the parents and the entire community—is coming to fruition.” said Vines
The new facility will provide additional opportunities for The Answer, Inc. to expand its services and programming.
“We’re raising money for occupational speech therapy and autism screenings,” Vines said, emphasizing that the organization is also seeking support for scholarships.
Expanding Support Throughout the Community
For Vines, the growth of The Answer, Inc. represents years of work, partnerships and a commitment to ensuring families do not have to navigate autism alone.
Among the organizations and community partners Vines highlighted are PLCCA, Building Brighter Futures and Loretto Hospital, along with legislators and mayors throughout Proviso Township.
“The mayors in Proviso Township have just been so amazing,” Vines said. “Everything, everything—I’m telling you, I can’t stop smiling.”
The organization is also preparing to resume programming at Loretto Hospital, including parent support groups, while continuing its work with Building Brighter Futures. The Answer, Inc. plans to expand its “Bullying Is Not the Answer” programming in schools throughout Chicago and build additional community relationships.
Vines also noted plans to collaborate with State Representative Mike Crawford on Chicago’s South Side.
A Mother’s Journey
Beyond her work as an advocate and community leader, Vines’ commitment to autism awareness is deeply connected to her role as a mother.
Her son, Jason, 38, recently transitioned to independent living, a milestone Vines described as both emotional and rewarding.
“I decided a year ago that it was time. Jason’s 38 years old, and I’m getting seasoned, and I wanted him to be able to transition while I’m still healthy and alive,” Vines said. “I wanted to be able to spend time with him while he’s in his new space, and he’s doing amazing. He’s doing absolutely amazing.”
Vines said Jason has embraced his new independence while remaining active in her life and the community.
“I miss him so much, but we spend time together throughout the week,” she said. “I pick him up for church, and then I pick him up during the week, and we’ll have lunch or go get a haircut or something like that.”
Her experience has also shaped the advice she gives to other parents who may be considering independent living for their children.
“Follow your heart and don’t listen to the noise outside of people’s opinions,” Vines advised. “Just know what’s right for you in your house and get support.”
She encouraged parents to connect with others who understand their journey and professionals who can provide guidance.
“Get support from people that are on the journey, have been on the journey, or are a professional that can support you,” she said. “Don’t go through it alone.”
Continuing the Mission
The Answer, Inc. will continue its community programming throughout the fall, with additional initiatives planned in Chicago and surrounding communities.
The organization’s annual Walkathon will return in April 2027.
As The Answer, Inc. prepares for the opening of its new facility, Vines hopes the community will continue to invest in the organization’s mission and the families it serves.
“An Evening in Black for Autism” will provide an opportunity for supporters to celebrate the progress that has been made while helping build the future of autism services and support in the community.
