Sip & Savor Plants Roots in South Loop

Grand Opening this Saturday, July 22nd

Since first opening its doors in 2005, Sip & Savor has continued to be a safe haven for creatives, entrepreneurs, students and coffee lovers across the South Side. Serving more than just coffee blends, the café infuses culture into every sip. From the rich interior aesthetic to the soul-replenishing playlists, multifaceted patrons and friendly staff, Sip & Savor is where coffee and community meet.

“When I first opened, the main thing I wanted to do was set up a space where people could meet,” [and create an energy that] “kind of wraps its arms around you and asks you to stay for a while,” said Trez Pugh, Owner of Sip & Savor. Unlike other coffee shops, “we are more than just coffee. We are education. We are empowerment, We’re entertainment,  financial literacy, and addressing issues like mental health within the community. We try to do it all.”

With current locations in Bronzeville and Hyde Park, Sip & Savor has now made its footprint in the heart of the South Loop. Once the announcement hit social media, it spread like wildfire. Loyal customers raved about and praised the expansion of the beloved brand. Pugh shared how this is such a prominent moment for the brand.

He expressed his excitement over tapping into the South Loop community as it’s a much more populated location compared to Bronzeville and Hyde Park. Pugh said the new shop will provide an increase in foot traffic and an expansion opportunity to bring the soul-based café experience to a new community.

Although the location is different, Pugh “wants to make sure the community knows that nothing changes from where they are at 43rd street.

“We’re still going to be about our five C’s: Crisp, Clean, Classy, Consistent and Customer Service and always will always incorporate the community into what we do,” said Pugh. “Sip & Savor has always prioritized hiring from within the community and highlighting partnerships and events within the community…and supporting Black artists within the community.”

According to Pugh, here are three reasons you should check out Sip & Savor:

  1. “We have the best coffee on the planet.” Sip & Savor imports coffee from Uganda, Ethiopia, Cameroon and Costa Rica. The menu also offers 30-40 different teas, as well as smoothies, hot chocolate, pastries and more.
  2. “Our customer service is stellar. We greet everyone with a smile and treat each person who walks through the door as a personal customer.”
  3. “We will become a part of this community” and will be “hiring your nieces and nephews” and truly being an asset to the neighborhood as a whole.

Sip & Savor will host its official ribbon cutting ceremony this Saturday, July 22nd at the new South Loop location (31 E Roosevelt Rd, Chicago, IL 60605). The grand opening will be from 10 am to 3pm, with the ribbon cutting taking place at 12noon.
