He served the public school system for five years until he resigned in 2006.

Now, three years later, Michael Scott is back in the driver’s seat at the seven-member Chicago Board of Education.

Monday, Mayor Richard M. Daley–– again –– appointed Scott to the post after accepting outgoing president, Rufus Williams’, resignation last Friday.

Williams’ resignation was effective immediately.

“He’s very good. and I have confidence in him,” Daley said in a news conference outside his City Hall office. “He shares my view about the importance of providing good education to each and every student in every neighborhood across Chicago. He knows our schools have come far but that there is far more for our students to accomplish.”

Scott thanked Daley for the vote of confidence once again, for an “interesting job” that will leave many to always second guess the decisions made.

“Public service is a blessing,” Scott said after he let reporters know he didn’t have a speech prepared.

Scott, a West Side native and product of Chicago Public Schools, currently sits on the Regional Transportation Authority board and the Chicago 2016 Olympic Committee. He spent nearly three decades with the City of Chicago and other sister agencies.
