Nielson and Essence Survey 2014 recognized it nationally as the second most widely read and best African American Newspaper. We distribute relevant and engaging news and information via multiple platforms daily.

The Roseland Ceasefire Project is holding its 3rd Annual Picnic in the Park at Dr. M. L. King Jr. Park, 15605 Leavitt Avenue in Harvey, Ill tomorrow, June 20, 2026, from noon – 4 p.m. as part of the organization’s efforts to keep the peace during National Gun Violence Awareness Month.

The Calumet Heights based organization constantly works to bring community residents together by creating supervised, family-friendly activities for all ages. Harvey elected officials say Roseland Ceasefire’s presence is a big help.

South Suburban Harvey is just one community the 20-year-old organization covers. In addition to Roseland, the violence intervention organization has a presence in Markham, Ford Heights, Calumet City, Calumet Park, Riverdale and Park Forest.

“We’ve heard the saying, ‘Idle hands are the devil’s workshop,’ and we want to keep our young people busy with positive, community and family supported activities throughout the summer, when gun violence tends to increase,” explains Bob Jackson, Roseland Ceasefire CEO.

Roseland Ceasefire was founded in 2006 as part of the organization started by Dr. Gary Slutkin at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The public health model is to treat gun violence as an epidemic.
