New music released, just in time for the holidays

A few seasoned artists, including the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, will be making some very special musical releases in the coming weeks.

The Queen is releasing her debut holiday album on DMI Records while Natalie Cole is expected to release a yet-unnamed CD in a coventure with DMI Music and Rhino/WEA. Christmas will be Al Jarreau’s first holiday CD, and Stax Records finally released the long-awaited album CD Moon Ride by songwriter Leon Ware. The 12-song collection is circulating now.

Jazz legend and artistic pianist McCoy Tyner introduced his second release on McCoy Tyner Music/Half Note Records titled Guitars featuring the spectacular rhythm section consisting of Ron Carter and Jack DeJohnette with Derek Trucks, Bela Fleck, Bill Frisell, John Scofield and Marc Ribot.

Marcus Miller, the “git down” bass player, cut lose in a recording on The Concord Label. With his long-time sidekicks, he blasted away, down, up and around on Peak Records. Guitarist Norman Brown, another jazz artist is picking and strumming the strings on the CD Stay With Me. And tenor saxophonist Everett Harp provided outstanding whaling melodic sounds on his My Inspiration CD.

Pianist and composer William Kurk, a third generation musician, the grand nephew of Thomas A. Dorsey, a pivotal force in gospel music and grandson of Dr. Lena McLin–a vocal instructor, pianist, composer and choral director–has written modern compositions on his recent CD entitled The Sound Volume 2.

Soprano Spensha Baker’s new CD release, Out Loud!, demonstrates vocal pyrotechnics in singing spirited gospel music and Trin-I-Tee 5:7, made up of New Orleans natives Chanelle Haynes, Angel Taylor and Adrian Anderson, show off dynamic harmonizing on their CD entitled T5 Deluxe.
