12.11.15 Game Highlights . . .
Key performers: Morgan Park — Jamal Burton, 10 points; Ayo Dosunmu, 7 points, 7 rebounds. Simeon — Evan Gilyard, 12 points; Josh Thomas, 12 points.
And it’s on . . .
Charlie Moore got the crowd going Friday night scoring in every which way: hitting long jumpers, driving in for a scoop shot midway through the fourth quarter and getting to the foul line, where he was 7-for-8. The Wolverines shot 9-for-25 on foul shots.
Simeon (2-1, 1-1) tried multiple defenders on Moore, but while they seemed to tire, he never did.
Game High . . .
Charlie Moore was content to bide his time Friday night.
The Morgan Park senior took just three shots in the first quarter, scoring two points. But by the time everyone else was wilting in the heat in Simeon’s gym, Moore was firing up his offense.
Moore scored a game-high 27 points, including seven of Morgan Park’s nine in the fourth quarter, as the No. 2 Mustangs beat No. 1 Simeon 70-65 in the Red South
Jamal Burton added 10 points for Morgan Park (3-1, 1-0) and sophomore Ayo Dosunmu contributed seven points and seven rebounds.
There actually were plenty of contributors for the Mustangs, who had seven players score in the first quarter and had 3-pointers from five players.
That was no accident.
The Moore Mature Team
Moore explained, “I was just trying to get my teammates involved, get them going. Everybody was doing it, knocking down shots when I kicked it to them.”
Coach Nick Irvin said that he had told the team to be patient and set the team up. “Once they get relaxed, that’s when you take over and be the killer you are.’ He did that,” said Coach Irvin.
