During a press conference, FOX45 reporter Keith Daniels questioned Scott about his comments toward those responsible for the shooting and whether his words were making a difference.
“You are obviously verbally and otherwise disturbed by this, with the comments that you are making and so forth,” Daniels said. “You’ve made those comments before, but it doesn’t really seem to be making a difference, does it?”
Scott responded by criticizing the question and redirecting the conversation to the injured child.
“Keith, I knew that you were going to ask some dumba** ridiculous questions,” Scott said. “It is a three-year-old who was shot, right?”
Scott said his focus was on the child hospitalized after the shooting, rather than how his comments were perceived.
“I’m worried about a three-year-old child being shot,” Scott said. “You’re worried about perception and some stories you’ve got. The only thing that matters to me is the life that we’re talking about that’s being fought for in a hospital in Baltimore.”
Scott also addressed the decline in violence in Baltimore, saying the progress does not change how he feels about individual victims.
“Yes, having a 50% [reduction in violence] is great. That’s a great thing for us to acknowledge,” Scott said. “But it does not matter right now to a 3-year-old who doesn’t understand why they’re in that much pain.”
Scott said that while a reduction in violence is worth acknowledging, his focus remains on eliminating shootings.
The shooting remains under investigation, according toFOX Baltimore.
