A man was charged Thursday for allegedly raping two women in separate incidents on the South Side earlier this month. John Hopkins, of the 5200 block of South Hyde Park Boulevard, was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, police said. He was charged in an Oct. 21 incident where, at about 12:45 a.m., a 19-year-old woman was raped in an alley in the 6300 block of South Rhodes Avenue. Hopkins allegedly was armed with a sharp object. She was treated at the University of Chicago Hospitals with non life-threatening injuries, police said. The 33-year-old man was also charged in the Oct. 8 attack of a woman who was grabbed at knifepoint inside her apartment building in the 1300 block of East Hyde Park Boulevard at about 10 p.m. Police said the woman was forced out of the building’s back door and into an alley where the attack occurred. A security guard in the building saw the man and woman but thought they were together. The man took the woman’s purse, driver’s license and keys. She was also treated at the University of Chicago Hospitals. Images of Hopkins were captured on the building’s surveillance camera. Hopkins is expected to appear in bond court today. ______ Copyright 2008 Chicago Defender. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
