A man has been denied bond after allegedly fatally shooting a Subway employee and injuring another over too much mayonnaise on his sandwich.
Melvin Williams is facing charges including murder, aggravated assault, third-degree cruelty to children, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection to the June 2022 shooting of Subway employees Jada Statum, who was wounded, and Brittany Macon who died.
Store owner Willie Glenn said the shooting stemmed from a dispute about mayonnaise on his sandwich.
“Believe it or not, it was about too much mayonnaise on his sandwich,” store owner Willie Glenn previously told Fox 5 Atlanta. “He decided to escalate the situation from there, and that’s when all hell broke loose.”
According to reports, Statum’s five-year-old son witnessed the Subway store shooting. Williams was recently denied bond and will remain behind bars while awaiting trial, People reports.
Macon’s family said she was a “caring and courageous” person.
“She was beautiful and loving, very vocal, would stand up for herself and others,” a statement from the family reads. “She was caring and loved life and her family I really would hope that the fact an unhinged man came into a restaurant and took a life. Mental health in the Black community needs to be addressed, it could’ve been anyone.”
