Newly opened campaign office will serve as a community-centered hub for residents, volunteers, and supporters
Lonnie Harrison Jr. today, Sept. 7, 2026, announced his candidacy for mayor of Harvey, Illinois, during a community gathering outside his newly opened campaign office at 15917 Dixie Highway in Harvey.
Harrison shared his vision for bringing residents, public institutions, businesses, faith leaders and neighborhood organizations together around a coordinated strategy for Harvey’s future.
“For more than three decades, my life’s work has been centered on faith, service, entrepreneurship and bringing people together,” Harrison said. “After much prayer, reflection and many conversations with residents across our community, I am proud to announce that I am running to become the next mayor of Harvey, Illinois.”
Harrison described Harvey as a community with a proud history, hardworking residents, and substantial potential. His campaign will focus on strengthening public safety, reducing blight, attracting responsible economic development, improving city services, and restoring public confidence through transparent and accountable leadership.
“We were once recognized as the Gateway to the South Suburbs,” Harrison said. “I believe it is time to open that gateway again—to opportunity, investment, safe neighborhoods, strong families and a better quality of life.”
“Harvey does not need another season of division,” Harrison said. “Harvey needs a leader who will listen, collaborate and build bridges.”
The campaign’s commitments will center on integrity in leadership, unity throughout the community and renewed pride in the City of Harvey.
The campaign will hold a Community Meet-and-Greet Open House on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from noon until 3 p.m. at the campaign office, 15917 Dixie Highway, Harvey, Illinois. The event is open to the community. Giveaways for residents, light appetizers and drinks will be available.
