Kobe Bryant entered the history books on Tuesday when he set an NBA record for most missed field goals of all time.
The 13,418th miss of his career came during the fourth quarter against Memphis, simultaneously breaking Celtics legend John Havlicek’s old record of 13,417 career missed field goals.
The new distinction conversely means that the Lakers star had to make a ridiculous amount of field goals during his career as well. “It takes a special player to stay in the league long enough to miss that many times. This record may be dubious, but it is only reflective of his greatness,” wrote USA Today’s Nate Scott.
To really put it in perspective, Michael Jordan once said: “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
