ATLANTA — Thousands of "American Idol" hopefuls will vie for a chance to reach Hollywood and extend their hopes of achieving fame, or at least of getting a record contract. On Thursday, many are expected to show up as early as 5 a.m. at the Georgia Dome, hoping to make the cut for the ninth season of the hit television series. Auditions for the popular Fox TV show will be held in five other cities during the upcoming weeks: Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Orlando and Denver.
