HuffPost OWN Launch Makes A Media Splash

The launch of HuffPost OWN — a new vertical that marks the start of a collaboration between The Huffington Post and the Oprah Winfrey Network — made a splash in the media world on Thursday.

The new vertical was accompanied by blog posts from Oprah herself and from Arianna Huffington, who wrote, “I was struck by the realization that even though she’d been a dominant player on television for more than two decades, Oprah was, in fact, made for the Internet. She was about engagement and authenticity and connection long before the web discovered them.”

Oprah wrote, “Understanding that we are all more powerful than we know — that we are all connected to something bigger than ourselves — is the real conversation I want to have.”

Many media outlets covered HuffPost OWN’s launch. Here is some of what they said:

The Hollywood Reporter: “As with her OWN network, the focus of the special section on The Huffington Post will be on empowerment, inspiration and personal growth.”

USA Today: “Huffington Post continued its merciless march of media mastery by adding a big, booming voice to its multitude of voices — none other than Oprah Winfrey.”

MediaPost: “HuffPost OWN will service as a hub for practical advice to help mostly female readers who embrace Oprah’s classic brand of existential inspiration.”

Associated Press: “Two of the most powerful women in media — Oprah Winfrey and Arianna Huffington — are joining forces.”
