An evening inspired by “Old Chicago” in support of kidney disease initiatives
The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois (NKFI)announces its 34thAnnual Gift of Life Gala, benefitting the NKFI mission to improve the health of those at risk or affected by kidney disease through free screening programs and community health initiatives in Illinois, on Thursday, Oct. 24, at The Drake Hotel, 140 East Walton Place. The evening worthy of the World’s Fair pays homage to “Old Chicago” with themed activities, cocktails, dinner stations and raffles.
NKFI will present CPD Chief Superintendent Eddie Johnsonand his son CPD Officer Daniel Johnsonwith the “Gift of Life Award” in recognition of their contributions to the world of kidney disease. Nearly two years ago, 25-year-old Daniel donated a kidney to his father, Eddie, after he was diagnosed with glomerulonephritis, an acute inflammation of the kidney. Renowned Chicago philanthropists, Joan and Paul Rubschlager, will be honored through the “Harold & Molly Schwartz Founders Award” for their outstanding commitment and achievement on behalf of NKFI. Regina Waldroup, reporter at NBC5, Chicago-native and longtime public supporter of organ donation, will serve as mistress of ceremonies and host the evening’s events.
Registration and cocktail hour will begin at 6:00 p.m. where attendees can join in Windy City-inspired fundraising stations including:
- Crosstown Classic Trivia – Guests will test their knowledge of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox; prizes include Chicago sports-themed packages.
- Prohibition –Spinthe roulette wheel while enjoying views of Lake Michigan.
- World’s Fair Wine Toss – Play a classic game of ring toss where winners will bring home a bottle of wine to celebrate.
Dinner stations will be open throughout the evening, highlighting classic Chicago and neighborhood flavors from Greektown,Little Italyand Pilsen, and ballpark favorites. Following the awards ceremony and fund the mission, guests will indulge in dessert stations, including a donut wall and sweet treats provided by Garrett Popcorn Shops®. The night will conclude with lively music and dancing from FAMOS! DJ Entertainment.
