CHICAGO (AP) — Motorists in Chicago are warned that the city’s annual winter overnight parking ban has started.
The ban began at 3 a.m. on Monday. Last year nearly 240 vehicles were towed on the first day of the ban.
The ban is enforced along 107 miles of critical streets from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. through March 31. That’s regardless if there is snow on the ground. City officials say the parking ban is needed to make sure critical roads can be plowed and salted if it snows.
The city says vehicles in violation of the ban will be towed. Violators will face a minimum $150 towing fee, $60 ticket and $20-per-day storage fee.
