The Chicago Defender is proud to announce the selection of its inaugural class of Standout Healthcare Leaders, an esteemed recognition celebrating Black healthcare professionals whose leadership, innovation, and service are making a meaningful impact across Chicago and surrounding communities.
The special recognition, featured in the Chicago Defender Vital Signs publication on June 26, 2026, honors accomplished healthcare professionals who are advancing patient care, improving health outcomes, championing health equity, and strengthening the overall well-being of the communities they serve.
The selected honorees represent a diverse cross-section of the healthcare industry, including healthcare executives and administrators, physicians, surgeons, nurses, dentists, behavioral and mental health providers, pharmacists, allied health professionals, public health leaders, healthcare educators and researchers, community health advocates, and healthcare entrepreneurs. Their work spans hospitals, health systems, private practices, academic institutions, community clinics, nonprofit organizations, and public health agencies throughout the Chicago area.
Each honoree was selected based on their professional achievements, leadership, commitment to excellence, and dedication to improving healthcare access and outcomes for all.
“In every community, there are healthcare professionals whose impact extends far beyond the walls of their organizations,” said Dyanna A. Knight Lewis, Publisher of the Chicago Defender and Regional Vice President of Real Times Media. “The Standout Healthcare Leaders recognition celebrates individuals who are transforming lives through compassionate care, visionary leadership, groundbreaking innovation, and an unwavering commitment to health equity. We are honored to spotlight these exceptional professionals and the difference they make every day.”
The June 26 edition of Vital Signs will feature profiles of the selected leaders, highlighting their accomplishments, career journeys, community contributions, and the lasting impact they continue to make across the healthcare landscape.
This recognition reflects the Chicago Defender’s longstanding commitment to celebrating excellence within the Black community and elevating stories that inspire progress, leadership, and opportunity. By honoring these healthcare leaders, the publication acknowledges their critical role in addressing disparities, improving quality of life, and helping build healthier communities for future generations.
The Chicago Defender congratulates the 2026 Standout Healthcare Leaders and looks forward to sharing their inspiring stories in this special edition of Vital Signs on June 26, 2026.
