At its May 2026 meeting, the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) Board of Commissioners approved five new Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) contracts that will add 94 Project-Based Voucher (PBV) units in communities across the city, including Lakeview, Logan Square, Woodlawn, Grand Boulevard, and the Lower West Side. These approvals support CHA’s ongoing commitment to expanding affordable, high-quality housing opportunities throughout Chicago.
The newly approved PBV contracts include:
• Flyover Flats (Lakeview) – A proposed new 55 unit, five story elevator building located steps from the Belmont CTA station. Thirteen of the 54 units will be supported by PBVs.
• Metropolitan L Apartments (Logan Square) – A proposed new construction, 100% affordable, transit-oriented development consisting of two seven story elevator buildings with 96 units. Twenty-four of those units will be supported by PBVs.
• Lofts at Loretto Academy (Woodlawn) – A proposed adaptive reuse of the historic Loretto Academy building into 55 residential units. Eighteen units will be supported by PBVs.
• One Roof Chicago (Grand Boulevard) – A proposed new construction senior housing community welcoming to and inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community. The five story, 46-unit elevator building is designed to provide safe, affordable, and affirming housing for older adults. Twelve units will be assisted by PBVs.
• Casa Bienestar (Lower West Side) – A proposed new construction affordable senior development offering integrated permanent supportive services. The seven story, 106-unit building will include 27 PBV assisted units
“Residents belong at the center of everything we do, and these new vouchers reflect that commitment,” said CHA CEO Keith Pettigrew. “These 94 new PBVs will expand options for people who need housing and help build more inclusive neighborhoods across Chicago. We came here to deliver, and this is the kind of progress our residents deserve.”
CHA Board Honors Resident Shanetra Wilson with a 2026 Resident Achievement Award.
At the meeting, the CHA Board recognized resident Shanetra Wilson with a 2026 CHA Resident Achievement Award.
Wilson had just returned to Chicago from Georgia when she received a life altering diagnosis: stage four breast cancer. Throughout her treatment, she was supported by a Housing Choice Voucher, CHA wellness programs, the WORC program, and resources that will help her continue her education and work toward homeownership through CHA’s “Choose to Own” program.
Now in remission, Wilson is recovering from multiple surgeries and treatments while caring for her two children and rebuilding her life. She recently participated in the CHA/Daisie Foundation Mother’s Day Makeover Experience, where she received encouragement and care during her ongoing recovery.
“God has given me a new lease and outlook on life,” she said. “I want people to know that stage four is not the end. I’m grateful to be here and to be part of something bigger.”
