Bringing fusions of urban art and music to create a one-of-a-kind cultural experience to everyone from the seasoned art collector, the social media enthusiast, and the hip-hop community, the Art, Beats, and Lyrics event was a perfect blend of various artforms.
On Friday, February 14, as part of the kick-off to NBA All-Star Weekend, the NBA launched its fourth installment of their NBA Voices Building Bridges Through Basketball program with the unveiling of a newly refurbished court designed by Project Backboard at Chicago's Union League Boys & Girls Club. NBA Voices is the league's initiative to address social injustice, promote inclusion, uplift voices, and bridge divides within the community. In partnership with Under Armour, RISE, and the Chicago Police Department, the NBA has joined together over 13, 000 young boys and girls with members of law enforcement beginning in 2016 with the Building Bridges Through Basketball program.
The top 8 boys and girls teams from around Chicago competed in the Gatorade Jr. NBA All-Star Invitational at Navy Pier Saturday, February 15th. Held during NBA All-Star 2020, the tournament kicked off at 9 am with the semifinals. Teams went head to head in a single-elimination tournament pitting the top 13 and 14-year-old players against one another for the chance to play in the championships held later that day at Wintrust Arena.
On Friday, February 14, 2020, as part of the NBA All-Star 2020, 12 Special Olympics athletes from around the world, including one from Illinois, joined NBA and WNBA players and legends for the ninth annual NBA Cares Special Olympics Unified Sports Basketball Game.
In partnership with Nike, SAP, State Farm, and City Year, more than 400 volunteers from both Chicago, as well as out of town had the opportunity to volunteer alongside some of their favorite NBA and WNBA players from past and present at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, located on the city's west side. Broken up into five different areas, volunteers all took turns sorting, packing, and repacking food and school items, all to later be distributed to individuals throughout the city.
