Bronzeville The Musical, a historical timeline piece that celebrates the great migration that birthed the black metropolis now known as Bronzeville, was written and directed by Margaret Mahdi. The musical premiered February 2016 at the Chicago Theatre on State.
The production will be presented this weekend Saturday and Sunday August 20 and 21 respectively at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts located at 915 East 60th Street, University of Chicago Campus. As a glimpse into the past that birthed Black Chicago,  Bronzeville, The Musical is a thought-provoking story that depicts the testimonials, laughter, tears, and voices of great courage representing the dynamic spirit of the determined person.
Vibrant choreography, soulful singing voices, along with spell-bounding performances delivered by Chicago’s very own community actors deliver real-life believable portrayals of young families who found racism unacceptable and left the oppressive South to begin lives of possibility.
The play original musical score, the play also celebrates Chicago’s Legends: Mr. Robert Abbott, Chicago Defender’s Founder and publisher who notably insigated the Great Migration, Ms. Lorraine Hansberry, Playwright and Activist and the Famed Lindy Hoppers, who danced their hearts out at the Savoy Ballroom located on 47th and South Park Way!Â
