After being magnanimous enough to move its usually Sunday telecast as to not conflict with Sunday Night Football and the MTV VMVAs, the Emmys has Monday evening all too itself.
The 66th prime-time Emmys air at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC as Netflix’s freshman comedy series nominee “Orange Is the New Black” and sophomore drama series contender “House of Cards” vying to become the first online-based shows to score Emmy wins.
On the red carpet, Seth Meyers and Jesse Tyler Ferguson of “Modern Family” were two early arrivals. Ferguson, who showed up in a black double-breasted suit, is trying to join “Frasier” as the all-time sitcom champ with five statuettes.
Others spotted included Kerry Washington, who is still trying to become the first African American female to win a prime-time Emmy for her role in “Scandal.” Also seen was sentimental favorite Laverne Cox, as well as Colin Hanks, who is nominated for his FX drama “Fargo,” actress Christine Baranski from “The Good Wife,” Kate McKinnon of “Saturday Night Live” and Kate Mulgrew from “Orange Is the New Black.”
