April 2026 Edition
There comes a moment in every woman’s journey where she must make a decision: to remain as she has always been… or to boldly recreate herself into who she is destined to become.
April is that moment.
As we step into this season of renewal, I am both honored and energized to introduce my inaugural Publisher’s Page, an intentional space where leadership meets legacy, and where empowerment is not just encouraged, but expected.
Throughout my tenure as Publisher of the Chicago Defender, I have been committed to elevating voices, expanding platforms, and ensuring that our stories, our truths, are told with power, precision, and purpose. Under my leadership, we have continued to strengthen one of the nation’s most historic Black-owned newspapers while creating modern pathways for visibility, influence, and impact.
From producing the nationally recognized Women of Excellence, now approaching nearly 1,000 honorees, to also producing our impactful Men of Excellence, together representing a powerful network of approximately 2,000 distinguished honorees, to cultivating meaningful partnerships, increasing community engagement, and amplifying narratives that matter, my work has always been anchored in one mission: to ensure that we not only have a seat at the table, but own the room.
And let me be clear, this is not just about recognition.
This is about recreation.
We are in an era where women are redefining success on their own terms. We are evolving, pivoting, building, healing, and rising; often all at once. And with that comes what I call our “bragging rights.” Not from a place of ego, but from a place of earned excellence. We have worked for this. We have sacrificed for this. We deserve to stand in it, unapologetically.
This page will serve as a monthly reminder that:
- Leadership is not given; it is cultivated.
- Empowerment is not passive; it is activated.
- Reinvention is not optional; it is necessary.
So, I invite you to walk this journey with me.
Show up boldly.
Lead with intention.
Recreate yourself, again and again, until your life reflects the fullness of your vision.
