The Xi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., in partnership with the eXceL Charitable Foundation, will host its 69th Annual Labor Day Breakfast on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Greenwood Oasis, 7621 S. Greenwood Avenue on Chicago’s South Side. Doors open at 8:00 a.m., with the program beginning at 9:00 a.m.
A longstanding Chicago tradition, the Labor Day Breakfast celebrates Alpha men whose leadership, service, and advocacy continue to strengthen communities while bringing together civic, business, faith, and community leaders for an inspiring morning of fellowship and purpose.
This year’s theme, “Alpha: For A Time Such As This,” reflects the urgency of servant leadership in today’s world and will be highlighted in the keynote address by Bro. Lyle Logan.
“As the newly elected President of the Xi Lambda Chapter, I have listened closely to both our members and our community about what this moment requires of Alpha,” said Bro. David Askew, President of the Xi Lambda Chapter. “This year’s Labor Day Breakfast marks the beginning of a renewed commitment to visible leadership, meaningful service, and deeper community engagement. We’re especially proud to bring this historic event back to the city of Chicago for the first time in more than a decade while intentionally investing in Black-owned businesses as our venue and catering partners. Together, we are demonstrating that leadership means strengthening communities economically, socially, and spiritually.”
For nearly seven decades, the Labor Day Breakfast has served as an unofficial kickoff to Chicago’s civic and election season, welcoming more than 300 attendees, including Alpha Phi Alpha members and their families, elected officials, candidates, business executives, philanthropic leaders, clergy, and community advocates. More than a breakfast, the event is a forum where relationships are built, ideas are exchanged, leaders are recognized, and a shared commitment to service is renewed.
“The mission of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is to develop leaders, promote brotherhood and academic excellence, and provide service and advocacy for our communities,” said Bro. Anthony Richard, President of the eXceL Charitable Foundation. “The Labor Day Breakfast honors Brothers who exemplify servant leadership while inspiring all of us to continue advancing opportunity, justice, and lasting impact throughout our communities.”
Tickets are now available: $60 per person or $600 per table. Community members, partners, and supporters are invited to join Xi Lambda and the eXceL Charitable Foundation for this inspiring celebration of leadership, service, and community impact
