Aaron Sledge to present his new project at NU

Just as thousands of children and youth often sang Jesus Loves Me and This Little Light of Mine, gospel vocalist Aaron Sledge remembers that the Lord told His disciples and all Christians to let their lights shine.

Sledge utilized this concept in creating his first solo project, Da Light, which he will introduce in his performance at Northwestern University’s Cahn Auditorium, 600 Emerson St. in Evanston, Saturday at 6:30 p.m. with Myron Butler and the Northwestern Community Ensemble.

The singer will perform such songs such as Da Light, Hold On, Bad and Did It All For Me. Sledge has been heard on WPWX-FM/92.3, Inspiration WGRB-AM/1390 and WMBI-FM/90.1 radio stations. Hailing from Chicago, Sledge is also a producer, songwriter and arranger. His songwriting has been featured on R&B singer Mario’s Turning Point for the single Here I Go Again.

Sledge also worked with various writers and producers such as Warryn Campbell, Harold Lilly, Ramsey Lewis, Michelle Williams and Tyrese. He considers his music “a breath of fresh air.” Others use terms like “refreshing” and “easy listening” to describe Sledge’s style. Being musically versatile, Sledge works with every genre of music and has appeared on the Jay Leno Show with such artists as Nelly, Avant, Akon and Jazzy Pha.

He has also sang background for gospel megastar and pastor, Smokie Norful, on BET’s Celebration of Gospel and appeared on Yolanda Adams’ Day by Day DVD recording.
