2 Dead, 16 Wounded in Chicago Weekend Shootings

Two people were killed and at least 16 others were wounded in weekend shootings throughout Chicago. Police were on the scene early Sunday morning to investigate the weekend’s latest homicide after a shooting along the Dan Ryan Expressway killed one man and injured a woman, officials said.
 
Three people were driving southbound in a car on the expressway between 71st Street and 75th Street when two people in the vehicle were shot.
Fredrick Taylor, 27, was pronounced dead at 3:14 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. The woman was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for a gunshot wound to the chest, authorities said.
 
The third passenger was unharmed, state police said. Details on the shooting were not immediately available. On Saturday, an ambulance witnessed a West Side shootout that killed one man and left another in critical condition.
 
The shooting happened shortly after midnight in the 3500 block of West Lake Street when paramedics happened to be passing by and called for police assistance. Two men were reportedly shot and both were taken to area hospitals in critical condition. One man was later pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, who identified the man as 24-year-old Jeremiah Moore. He was pronounced dead at 11:42 p.m. Saturday.
No officials were injured in the shooting.
 
Sunday’s first shooting occured around 3:30 a.m. in the 4000 block of Washington Boulevard, police said, A 32-year-old man was shot in the hand and taken in stable condition to Mount Sinai.
 
Minutes earlier, a man was shot in the right thigh in the 3500 block of W. 5th Avenue and taken to Mount Sinai. He was listed in stable condition, police said.
On Saturday, a man was shot twice in the left thigh around 9 p.m. in the 6500 block of South Loomis Boulevard. He was take to John H. Stroger Hospital in good condition.
 
Earlier, a 30-year-old man was shot around 2:20 p.m. in the 700 block of North Menard Avenue. He drove himself to West Suburban Medical Center and was listed in good condition, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Sullivan.
 
Saturday’s first shooting happened when a 23-year-old man was shot in the buttocks in the 10600 block of South Lafayette Avenue. Police said the man, who has known gang ties, was in a backyard when a gunman began firing at him.
