More Refugees Than Ever Before: Where Should They Go?

There are now more displaced people in the world than ever before. As a result of persecution, conflict, generalized violence, or human rights violations, 65.3 million people were displaced by the end of 2015, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. That number is 5.8 million more than the previous year and a historical high. It’s so many people, in fact, that if these 65.3 million persons were a nation, they would make up the 21st largest in the world.
Ban Ki Moon, United Nations Secretary General was quoted in the report as saying, “We are facing the biggest refugee and displacement crisis of our time. “Above all, this is not just a crisis of numbers; it is also a crisis of solidarity.”
With this record number of refugees seeking somewhere to go, who should take them in? This BBC video explores the issue.
