‘Zendaya’ Barbie, and other beautiful black dolls

Zendaya-instagramZendaya Coleman’s Barbie is finally here, and it’s beautiful. The 19-year old starlet has joined the immortal ranks of other women of color like Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, and J.Lo to get her own Mattel doll.
The release of the Zendaya Barbie comes months after her gorgeous look at the 2015 Oscars prompted E! News’ Fashion Police Host Guiliana Rancic to make some very controversial comments regard her hair style. After Zendaya took to social media to call Rancic out for her ignorant remarks, the co-host was removed from the show, and it was soon after cancelled.
The actress recently revealed her “mini-me” on the red carpet of Barbie Rock ‘n Royals concert experience benefiting VH1 Save The Music Foundation held at the Hollywood Palladium in L.A.
The doll is a replica of Zendaya’s beauty, youth, and eccentricity. It’s refreshing for a major company like Mattel to take a stand in diversifying the ideal of beauty, and give little black girls more dolls that look like them. Whether rocking a ‘fro, sleek press, or dreads, black beauty comes in many looks. But, the ‘Zendaya’ Barbie is hardly the first doll to trail blaze. Here’s a look at some of the most beautiful black dolls. Their elegance is uncanny!
