Commissioner Yumeka Brown, a Chicago native, was elected to the Board of Commissioners for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) on November 8, 2022. She is committed to environmental justice and sustainability and brings over 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector. Currently serving as the Senior Director of Governance and Operations for the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Commissioner Brown is an Illinois Women in Leadership Training Academy graduate with a bachelors degree in criminal justice. In addition to her role as Commissioner, she serves as the Village Clerk of Matteson, Illinois, and is the President of the Rich Township Democratic Organization. Commissioner Brown is a dedicated advocate for equitable communities and is passionate about ensuring clean water and air for all. Commissioner Brown is the proprietor of The Iron Pearl Banquet Facilities, a small business. Her exceptional knowledge and unwavering commitment to fostering fair and sustainable communities make her an invaluable asset to the MWRD and Greater Chicago residents.
