I consider it a blessing to have been raised by a mother who has worked in the nonprofit sector for over 35 years. She started out as a Vista Volunteer for United Way in Norfolk, Virginia and has managed to work her way up to Senior VP of Community Engagement and Alignment for United Way of the Mid-South. I saw her dedication to her job, but also her dedication to the community. The desire to serve the community has also been passed down to my sister, who also decided to enter the nonprofit sector as an accountant.
Whatever your reasoning may be to take a position, or consider taking a position, with a nonprofit company, there are many benefits to reaching for success in a career that also allows you to reach out.
