Authorities responding to a report of a crash on Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive discovered that a woman had been shot inside a van.
Police say the van found just after 4 a.m. Friday was riddled with bullets. Authorities say the woman was later pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
“Ten to 14 rounds” were fired into the van, according to a state police spokesman.
Illinois State Police officials are investigating the shooting. State police had received a report of a crash on the ramp from Lake Shore Drive to Interstate 55.
State police say the van’s driver was shot. A female passenger in the van wasn’t injured.
Feeder ramps to and on Lake Shore Drive remained closed into the morning rush hour.
