Chartay is a recognized leader in community engagement with over two decades of experience driving transformative change across Chicago’s academic and civic landscapes. As the ASD of Advocacy & Outreach, she leads strategic initiatives focused on engaging the African American/Black community, particularly on Chicago’s South Side and Cook County. Chartay’s policy work centers on advancing financial security and empowering older adults through advocacy, education, and outreach. Her career spans leadership roles at Rush University Medical Center and the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she championed community-based research through translational medicine. At RUMC, she connected faculty research with community health priorities, ensuring scientific innovation was rooted in equity and lived experience. At UCMC, she helped launch the Southside Healthcare Collaborative and other community-driven programs. Her contributions have earned her numerous honors, including the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Chartay is an active member of several organizations, including the Black Leadership Council of Chicago. Chartay’s ability to unify stakeholders, elevate community voices, and drive systemic change makes her a sought-after speaker, collaborator, and advocate in public health, civic engagement, and social justice.
