Captain Natasha Lawson was born in Chicago, Illinois, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Administration with a minor in Criminal and Social Justice from Lewis University. While attending Lewis, she obtained her pilot’s license and became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA), an international organization dedicated to service and community uplift.  

After graduation, Captain Lawson continued her education at Roosevelt University, in Paralegal Studies. She later became a Charter Member of the Chi Omega Omega Graduate Chapter of AKA, further expanding her commitment to service. 

In 2006, Captain Lawson joined the Illinois State Police and was assigned to Patrol. Her strong work ethic and diverse professional background led to her promotion to Captain in 2023. Currently, she is the only Black state trooper holding the rank of Captain in Illinois.  

She currently serves as Southern Commander of the Division of Internal Investigation, overseeing operations across 75 counties in Southern Illinois.  

Captain Lawson is a devoted and loving mother of two children, a role that deeply influences her leadership, compassion, and dedication to public service.
