White Sox players kick off charities week 2012

CHICAGO (AP) — White Sox players will spend the week serving their communities as part of White Sox Charities Week 2012.

Team officials say Charities Week begins Monday when White Sox players dine with military personnel during a luncheon at U.S. Cellular Field.

Soldiers and athletes will square off in a few friendly games of darts, air hockey and pool during the lunch.

Players from the South Side team also will visit patients at Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago on Tuesday and stop by the General Wood Boys & Girls Club in the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago on Wednesday.

The Charities Week will conclude Friday when White Sox staff and volunteers participate in a playground-building event at the city’s Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.
