White Officers Cleared In Tyler Perry Racial Profiling Case

In a lengthy Facebook[4] posting, Perry provided his followers with the details of his confrontation with the officers, which began with his illegal turn in his $110,000 Porsche Panamera sedan after leaving his Atlanta studio to ensure that he was not being followed.

Perry was spotted by two White officers in a patrol car and pulled over.  The men approached the writer/director/actor and proceeded to interrogate him without issuing him a summons.

According to the officer’s testimony, they had been looking for a vehicle that fit the description of Perry’s car at the time which is why they stopped him. They also insisted that their reason for stopping Perry had nothing to do with his race.  “His vehicle had dark, tinted windows,” one officer said, according to the report.  His partner, who has been on the force for eight years, also testified that he “didn’t look at the driver” before the traffic stop.

During the officer’s line of questioning, Perry alleged that he felt uneasy and threatened because the men were intimidating.  Perry wrote that before he could reply, he heard the second officer banging on a passenger window because it was tinted. The second officer allegedly asked him, “Why do you think someone is following you? What is wrong with you?”

One of the men also reached in to Perry’s vehicle to shut his engine off.

Perry alleged that the men continued with their barrage of questions until a third officer showed up on the scene, who happened to be Black and recognized him.  Perry continued:

He took one look at me and had that ‘oh, no’ look on his face. He immediately took both officers to the back of my car and spoke to them in a hushed tone. After that, one of the officers stayed near his car while one came back, very apologetic.

Pointing to two other infamous cases involving racial profiling, such as in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin[7], Perry ended his posting with:

RACIAL PROFILING SHOULD BE A HATE CRIME INVESTIGATED BY THE FBI!!!

After four months of investigations, an internal affairs officer reported, “I would submit the evidence shows the actions of both officers with the regard to the traffic stop of Mr. Perry were justified, lawful, and proper.”

‘No justice, no peace!’
