White House staffer to be parade grand marshal

President Barack Obama’s senior advisor, Valerie Jarrett, will serve as the Grand Marshal for the 81st Bud Billiken Parade.

President Barack Obama’s senior advisor, Valerie Jarrett, will serve as the Grand Marshal for the 81st Bud Billiken Parade. Jarrett will start off the parade which begins at 39th Street and King Drive August 14 at 10 a.m.. The theme of the parade is Education is the American Way. Though a Washington insider now, Jarrett has roots in Chicago, having served eight years as deputy corporation counsel for finance and development for the city, been Mayor Richard M. Daley’s deputy chief of staff, and worked as commissioner of the department of planning and development.
