Justin Fields was one of the most sacked quarterbacks last year. So, it’s only natural that his team, the Chicago Bears, does the right thing and gets this man a bodyguard.

That’s precisely what they did when they drafted Darnell Wright, an offensive tackle out of the University of Tennessee, with the 10th pick of the first round.

A scouting report from NFL.com describes Wright as a “big-bodied tackle who carries his weight well.”

Chicago’s selection of the mammoth, 6-5, 335-pound tackle had professional football observers and armchair quarterbacks abuzz. The good news is that the reaction to the Bears first-rounder seems mostly positive.

These folks had high praise for the Bears selection of Wright:

But the elephant in the room was the Bears trading back one spot from the ninth pick so that the Philadelphia Eagles can select defensive tackle Jalen Carter from the University of Georgia, perhaps the most talented player in the draft.

The Bears could have had Carter, and folks had plenty to say about that.

The bottom line is that nobody will know how these guys will turn out until three years down the road.

Here’s the main takeaway so far: The Bears seem invested in protecting their franchise quarterback.
