When You Need Some Advice Don’t Ask Twice… Ask Dr. Karen!

Dear Dr. Karen

I’ve been dating a guy for almost three months. A few days ago, out of nowhere he told me that he enjoyed spending time with me, but was not interested in getting married. He also said that he would like to be in a long-term relationship but he doesn’t see us moving in that direction.
I understand this to mean that he wants to see other people. After wasting five months of my time, he now wants to know can we just be friends. How do you think I should handle this?

Dear Love Lost:
Mistake # 1, you must have brought up the subject of marriage somewhere in one of your conversations. That’s why he stated he was not interested in marriage. That was a NO NO! That’s why he put the brakes on. I don’t understand what the rush was to take this relationship to the next level.
If you want to see how fast a man can run, mention the “M”. Three months is not enough time to determine if you want a long-term relationship. You both are still learning about each other.
Accept that you have been dumped. Initially, the question can we just be friends is the code word for I’m outta here. Next time keep the “M” word to yourself!
