Tyler Traywick is a freshman at Westinghouse High School and considers himself a staunch science fair competitor. With his 4.5 GPA, Traywick ranks seventh in his class of nearly 300.
“My love for science has led me to win three medals at the Science Olympiad Competition,” Traywick said.
He has participated in other science programs that he is proud to have been a part of.
“One major project I was involved in was sponsored by the John G. Shedd Aquarium. The project was mainly about interaction and working together with others in order to build a plastic, life-sized replica, of a giant humpback whale,” said Trayvick
The 15-year-old plans to attend the University of Florida after graduating high school. The science lover said he wants to be an astronomer. He developed a love for science growing up and used his passion to sustain him as he took a liking to biology, astronomy, physics and human geography. His desire to succeed was instilled in him at an early age, he said.
“My inspiration is my mother, growing up in a household where we believed religion is the key for family happiness and any success in life,” he explained.
“I was born into this world knowing one thing: That I must do whatever, in order to keep my faith and integrity, in life’s endeavor to succeed,” Traywick said. “My model of what I go by was stated by my fifth grade teacher. ‘Good, Better, Best, never let it rest until the good is better and the better is best,’” he said.
