Recognizing that the soft economy is having a devastating effect on her West Side constituents, Alderwoman Emma Mitts (37th) has organized a job fair for this upcoming weekend. “In today’s uncertain economy, the job market continues to be fiercely competitive and very difficult to navigate, and that’s why now – more than ever – it’s critical to provide Chicagoans with job training, business and workforce opportunities, and the relevant experience needed to survive in the global workplace,” said Mitts. She added that the fair is not restricted to residents of the 37th Ward, and all Chicagoans are invited to attend the free event, which runs March 21, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Bethel New Life church, 1120 N. Lamon Ave. The job fair will include information on entry level to professional positions. Local employers will also be on hand to meet one-on-one with job seekers. There will be a housing resource fair taking place at the job fair, as well. It will provide information about programs to assist homeowners facing foreclosure, new homebuyers, renters and more.   On hand will be housing counselors, lenders, governmental agencies and community housing organizations. ______ Copyright 2009 Chicago Defender.
