Walmart in Chatham opens

After a more than six-year battle with Chicago’s city council to get a Walmart store approved in his South Side ward, Ald. Howard Brookins (21st) is proud to see the doors open Wednesday at the new Walmart on 83rd Street and Stewart Avenue.

After a more than six-year battle with Chicago’s city council to get a Walmart store approved in his South Side ward, Ald. Howard Brookins (21st) is proud to see the doors open Wednesday at the new Walmart on 83rd Street and Stewart Avenue. The Arkansas-based retail giant opened the big box store less than a year after opening a Walmart Express about one block away. The city’s first Walmart opened on the West Side in 2006.
